A Snake, A Cake, and Jake

The Walton family of Virginia --- not the famous Walton family of Walton mountain --- has been changing since we returned from Utah this summer. First one snake, and then another arrived to take up residence in Michael and Nathaniel's room. Here they are:

They eat frozen mice (thawed, of course, but not cooked :-) It's fascinating to watch them detach their jaws to swallow their meals.

We have also added a fence in our backyard. That makes it so that Nathaniel's big wish could be fulfilled -- a dog! This is Jake. He is a 5 month old Beagle puppy.

Jake isn't so sure about which toys are his and which ones aren't. But he is already getting better. We haven't had much trouble keeping the children from eating Jake's food (or the snakes' food, for that matter). The other way around is likely to be an interesting development.

Finally, we thought you'd enjoy seeing Zachary enjoying his dessert. Actually, this isn't cake; it is an ice cream sandwich. But that doesn't rhyme well with snakes and Jake.

Hope everyone has a happy Halloween!

Congrats on the pets! I'm curious to know if the snakes have been named yet. Oh, and just so you know, there is now a "Holly 2" that has taken residence at our house. Amelia's other Grandma has given Amelia (and Lucy...) a new doll that has officially been named "this is MY Holly!" Good luck with the new "children". :)

Wow- a new puppy! Very exciting. I'm glad Nathaniel's dream can be fulfilled! And at least this pet doesn't involve microwaving mice!!

Chris and I have a friend named Jake, who used to introduce himself by saying, "Hi, my name is Jake. It's a name people often name their dogs." One day he was at a party and met a woman. She introduced herself by saying, "Hi, my name is Molly. It's a name people often name their dogs." Now they're married, and have a son named Gus.

That's great about Holly 2, Steph. Does she look like the original?

That is such a cute puppy! I bet he's a lot of fun! We both think beagles are some of the cutest dogs. As for the snakes I can definitely say that I would not sleep well in your room, Michael and Nathaniel! You two are very brave!!
